Curiosity. Creativity. Connection.
My teaching philosophy.
Below is a playful "advertisement" that captures the heart of my teaching philosophy. You may recognize it as the letter from the two adorable (and fictitious) children, Jane and Michael Banks in the 1964 classic Mary Poppins. Also in the spirit of Mary Poppins, I truly believe that...
"In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.
You find the fun and... SNAP! The job's a game."
When students step into my classroom or a session, I want them to feel seen, valued, and welcomed into the joy that learning can—and should—be.

Tutoring
In addition to classroom teaching, I offer personalized tutoring services that cater to each child’s needs—whether they’re building foundational literacy, catching up in math, or simply growing their love for learning. My approach blends academic rigor with fun, creative strategies to spark curiosity and excitement. Areas of focus include:
-
Phonics and phonemic awareness
-
Reading fluency and comprehension
-
Writing and creative expression
-
Foundational math skills and math fact fluency
Because learning is more fun (and cheaper) with friends, small-group sessions are also available. Tutoring takes place in my home, located in the Dufief Mill Estates and Stonebridge community (near Stone Mill Elementary School). Sessions can either be 45 or 60 minutes, depending on schedule, budget, and learning goals.
